This year’s edition of Salon Art + Design NYC counted with the presence of François-Xavier Lalanne, the well known french surrealist product designer, collaborated with French porcelain-maker Sevres on just two of these fantastical bronze-and-porcelain bar cabinet grasshopper, one currently on display at Chastel-Marechal’s booth.

In the early 1970s, Lalanne received from Georges Pompidou, then President of France, an important mission: to create a piece to be presented to Queen Elizabeth during an official visit to the country. The result was surprising: a cricket of 1.80 meters in length that serves as an air-conditioned cellar, made of Sèvres porcelain, nickel-plated steel and polished brass. The curious object holds the entrance that gives access to the suites of the Palace of Windsor.

About Lalanne
