Set sail for the wild and grandiose landscapes of Iconic Kimberley, following a brand new Ponant itinerary. The view from the ship’s deck of red rugged sandstone cliffs is unmistakably Australian, but the scene on board is irredeemably French.
Set sail for the wild and grandiose landscapes of Iconic Kimberley, following a brand new Ponant itinerary. From Broome to Darwin, embark aboard L’Austral for an 11-day expedition cruise. At around two-thirds the size of France, Kimberley is one of the last unspoiled regions on the planet. In one of the most picturesque parts of the region, the Hunter River, you will see wild mangrove forests where saltwater crocodiles live along with many species of birds.
Even more surprisingly, however, the only food on the ship that’s Australian is the emergency jars of Vegemite and five tonnes of fruit and vegetables. Everything else, including the 150 kilograms of meat and fish, the 20 tonnes of flour, the 9000 eggs and the mountains of alcohol are shipped from France in containers over 45 days.
The high point of this cruise will undoubtedly be the discovery of the King George River and the majestic Twin Falls, the highest falls in Western Australia. You will also visit Collier Bay, where you will be able to admire the Montgomery Reef, home to vast expanses of lagoons and immense coral reefs.
Highlights on the itinerary include Gwion Gwion rock markings and Wandjina rock arts, terrain that predates the existence of fossils, breathtaking waterfalls and rare sightings of migrating Humpback whales.
